I did not have a positive experience with Ethan at the Law Office of Jesse Cook. Based on the firm’s website and intake representations, I was told this office handles consumer fraud, landlord–tenant matters, and civil litigation. My case involved all three. However, once the consultation began, it felt like a clear bait-and-switch. Key issues were dismissed outright. Retaliation was not meaningfully addressed, despite clear timing and supporting documentation. My legal interest as an occupant was minimized solely because I was not on the lease, even though a motion to add occupant had already been filed. Rather than analyzing that procedural posture, the discussion was reduced to “paying rent,” despite the fact that rent had been paid and text logs showed an existing payment agreement with the landlord. When I clarified or corrected facts, the response was disengaged. The attorney shut the discussion down rather than exploring the evidence presented. Body language during the consult reflected discomfort when factual corrections were made and limited engagement overall. I also paid $275 for the consultation, yet near the end of the meeting I was told that we were 20 minutes over the allotted time, which was unexpected given the lack of substantive legal analysis provided and added to the feeling that the interaction was rushed rather than solution-focused. Fee discussions further lacked transparency. I was quoted $1,500 and $5,000 for a detainer, but there was no clear explanation of what services those amounts covered. I was only told it would take 24–48 hours to review, and that the $1,500 would function as an “earnest” type deposit, without further breakdown. Overall, I left feeling unheard and disappointed. The consultation did not reflect the scope of practice advertised, nor did it provide substantive legal analysis of the issues presented. I hope the firm takes this feedback seriously and aligns consultations more closely with client expectations and advertised services. Review Update / Addendum Update: After posting this review, I received a phone call from Ethan asking why I left a one-star review and stating that he believed the consultation went well. During that call, I was also informed that I could schedule a consultation with Jesse Cook directly. I want to clarify that at the time of booking and during the consultation, I believed I was already scheduled with Mr. Cook. This information was not made clear beforehand and further supports my concern about misalignment between intake expectations and the actual consultation experience. I am choosing to document this publicly rather than continue private follow-ups. My original review remains an accurate reflection of my experience as a paying client. No partial refund or adjustment was offered despite the concerns raised during or after the consultation.
